Sony HDR-CX360V Compared to Others in the Line

Around $800, the CX360V comes in at the low-end price range for this line of Sony Handycam recorders. With that in mind, the CX360V provides a lower-resolution (230,000 dot) touch screen, lower resolution sensor, 32GB memory, and a 17X Extended Zoom lens. The CX700V has 96GB memory and manual control dial, while the CX560V has 64GB memory. The Extended Zoom is stronger for the two higher-end camcorders.

Ergonomics

The HDR-CX360V offers an array of brilliant features, but without first telling you about the look and feel of the camera would simply be a disservice. At first glance, this camcorder looks as though the size might create limitations as far as functionality and additions, but this is far from the truth. The camera is easy to learn to use, lightweight and very comfortable to hold.

Sony HDR-CX360V Camcorder comes equipped with a built-in GPS receiver which is great for archiving and tracking where you took your video. The 32GB of internal flash memory, while not as much as the higher-end CX700V, allows you to record nearly 13 hours of high quality footage. You also have the option of using the slots for SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards.

Sony included TruBlack technology which provides better contrast allowing you to see what is on the 3.0 inch touch panel LCD easier when you’re in brightly lit areas or outdoors.

You can turn to the Highlight Playback to edit and create your movie. This cool feature identifies key scenes and compiles them into a movie complete with music and transitions. Now you don’t have to spend hours editing your video, the CX360V does it for you! Of course, you can still pick and choose additional scenes you want to include in the movie.

It’s easy to copy videos directly to an external hard disk drive or to your computer. If you can’t wait to see the recording before you copy to another device, just playback the video directly on your HDTV before you download it. This camcorder is available in black or a deep wine color or Bordeaux.

Picture Quality

Using this camera, you achieve professional level recordings at 1920 x 1080p progressive full high definition with great sound, too. The CX360V offers great value for the price producing excellent full HD 60p recording capabilities with 7mp still image capture with the clarity in picture quality most satisfying. The engine driving the high definition recording is the Exmor R CMOS sensor. The Exmor is what provides the progressive HD with exquisite detail in color. The superb low-light video feature is brought to you by the inclusion of the back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor.

This camcorder gives you 32GB of embedded flash memory that allows you to record anything you want for up to thirteen hours of high definition footage. The wide angle G Lens offers a broader capture of the scene for wide angle shooting. The 27.4mm focal length in Photo Mode and 29.8mm in Video Mode, improves accurate color reproduction for a more detailed and sharper image.

When speaking of image stability, the Optical SteadyShot provides stabilization with Active Mode. This feature is specifically designed to nullify the hand movements you create when zooming or panning with your camcorder. You may be the type of person that moves around or can’t seem to keep your hand steady. Image stabilization with electronic roll stability will be your steady hand.

Sony’s 17x Extended Zoom allows you to get in close to those shots of your daughter’s ballet recital. The Extended Zoom works with the 12x optical zoom to maintain the quality of the high definition image.

The CX360V also provides a 3.0″ touch screen for excellent viewing capabilities. The impressive 17x zoom feature allows for those very close shots when you can’t seem to get close enough.

Sound Quality

The fact that your HD video sounds is as if you are right back on location again is due to the years of experience Sony engineers have producing great sound and the Clear Phase stereo speakers. Sony’s sound engineers borrowed from their audio expertise to create the S-Master digital amplifier. You also get a 5.1ch Dolby Digital surround sound recording mic that records your movies just as you heard them and playback is as if you are in the big theater watching your movie.

The Wind Noise Reduction technology is a nice feature. It reduces the noise created when recording during a windy or breezy day. The final rendering provides a much clearer sound experience.

Pros

• Great pictures in low-light conditions
• Stunning high-definition recordings at a very affordable price
• 17X Extended Zoom is stronger than the higher end CX560V and CX700V
• Lightweight

Cons

• Shorter recording time as compared to the big brothers HDR-CX560V and CX700V
