JVC GZ-MG680
There is a massive competition going on in the camcorder market with lots of companies fighting to get your business, and this means that many companies release lots of different camcorders in a very small market range. The JVC Everio GZ-MG680 is no exception and is one of a trio of Everio camcorders and is amongst several others released by JVC, all in a similar price range. So what does this offer that the others don’t, and why would you choose the JVC Everio GZ-MG680 rather than one of their other models? To help you decide we have reviewed the unit and share our results with you here. Hopefully it will help you make up your mind which camcorder is for you.

JVC Everio GZ-MG680 Camcorder
Design
This is definitely JVC through and through. Their design is consistent, with the black color and the silver trim coupled with the very square but neat looking design which will appeal to many. It is a nice compact size and will fit nicely in the palm for one-handed operation, which is always a bonus when you are trying to capture those home movies. It feels well made, which reassures you that it will last a long time. We have moaned before but we will moan again – JVC use very flimsy hand straps which offer little in the way of security should you drop it.
The flip out screen is a nice size and has some control buttons under it, and the rest of the camcorder is laid out, as you would expect with buttons ergonomically designed for reach when working.
Functionality
The JVC Everio GZ-MG680 is another ‘does what it says’ type camcorder. The picture quality is as it should be, the color good and clear, and this will produce home movies that are more than satisfactory and allow you to treasure them for years to come. The optical zoom is good which means that you do not need to be able to get right up close to your subjects to get a good up close shot of them. This has the biggest internal memory of any of this range of camcorder with a whopping 120GB of space, which should be more than enough for most things, and there is one SD slot which means that the space can be expanded even further should you need it. The unit has fairly good menus and they are easy to navigate. The only criticism is that they can be somewhat long winded to get where you need to go. Other than this, the JVC Everio GZ-MG680 is the top of the pile because it is the best of the range, yet the price really isn’t that bad considering the performance you get.
Conclusion
Yes we would buy this camera, but would also be equally satisfied with the model below which has 60GB internal memory. Really, it will come down to personal choice and whether you want to spend the extra money because there isn’t a lot in it – we are talking $50 at most in most retailers. They both do what they say and represent value for money, so go for it.
